Hello ladies and gentleman to yet again another thread of your weekly episodic thread The Podium with your author my self Mr. #1 Cameron Jacobs.
I would like to once again say thank you to all who commented on my last thread I feel everyone who agreed and disagreed made good points and everyone can move on and live a happy 4th of July weekend!! Okay so this weeks subject is one that is actually very near and dear to my heart and its something that I treasure and love in professional wrestling.... However its very rapidly dying off and becoming a lost and forgotten art...... The Art of Chain Wrestling Yes yes ladies and gentleman for those of you who do not know me I am an incredible fan of chain wrestling. I study it and enjoy watching it and use it very often in my matches. Chain wrestling is a dying art... Its getting so bad that some new guys that come in have no idea what chain wrestling even is.... Chain wrestling was designed and made up because back in early days it was a form of **shoot** wrestling and also by knowing how to chain you did not have to bump your ass off the whole match. I buys time and is a good way to get both baby face and heel interaction with the crowed. I say it dying because no one **especially** green kids have no idea what it is or how to use it some of them barley know how to get into a lockup.. On tv you almost never even see a lockup or an arm wringer or even a headlock for that matter. Two guys step in and just start going at it... there is no build up to taking bumps. Some people may argue that chain wrestling is boring... or outdated...or there is no need to chain wrestle.... This is where I am going to leave it up to you as a fan or as a worker to tell me what you think about chain wrestling? Do you think its a great art form of our beloved sport that could be saved? Do you think pro wrestling fans would appreciate to see good old school wrestling like this? Well boys and girls I really hope you all enjoyed this weeks thread of the podium ! ! ! ! Remember you can always find out more information about where I am going to be or what is going on with MR. #1 at www.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... or www.facebook.com...acobs This weeks podium match of the week comes from and old fcw tape but most of everyone will remember the two names in this match since they are both Chicago Natives and one is back wrestling around this area again while the other stayed down in florida... at least what we last heard lol Jeff Luxon Vs. Adam Evans http://www.youtube.com...jvLJg Thank you all one last time for taking the time to read my thread I hope you all have a safe a joyful holiday weekend this weekend and as always workers stay safe and marks keep buying tickets!! until next week thank you and BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello once again ladies and gentleman for once again another weekly episodic thread of the podium!!
I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of there summers and enjoying this nice weather we have been having. This weeks subject for the the thread is ..... LEGENDS Now I know everyone knows a lot about who these guys are up in the bigger scene. Such as ; Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, Terry Funk. the list could go on and on but you get my point. What I have been thinking about is what makes these guys legends? The fact that they have wrestled all over the world. Drew more money than most wrestlers in the world. The in ring presence. There in ring knowledge. The fact that when hear there music you know your in for an exciting match. Now that's all good and great on the "bigger scale". But I feel that there are guys on the indie scene that do pretty much all of these things and I am sure that the people will never forget them. people look at posters and see these guys are on a show and now there going no matter what. Guys that when you hear there music you know your in for a good match. The fact of the matter is these guys will never be forgotten. The first one on my list this week was very well known in the baseness and made a lot of money in pro wrestling and was always a man people wanted to see. He is probably more of a faded memory now but all the most he will never be forgotten and that is. Hurricane Paul Smith. He wrestled out of Windy City Pro Wrestling. He stood at just shy of 7ft he weighed in at over 300 pounds. I know of Paul because he is the sheriff of my home town in Amboy and he is the one who told me how to get in. I remember watching his matches when wcpw came to town and he was a very good sports entertainer. I am putting him on here first not because I know him. Its because every time I talk to a windy city "vet" they ask me about old Hurricane. This man will never be forgotten and should be known at this kind of status. My second is a family and that is the Thomasellie's, These guys have traveled all around making money and making sure that ever time they are in a pro wrestling match it is very exciting to watch. I have only met Pauly but I have seen the others on dvd's and the internet enough to know there very exciting to watch. And I know first hand that if Pauly is on a poster people love coming to watch and support him. My third would be a guy who is probably one of the most respected men on the indie scene. He is a master of the ring knows everything there is to know about the squared circle and that would have to be Derrek St Holms Esq. I have only met him recently and also got the privilege of working in a match with him. He is definitely a great sports entertainer people see him on a poster and they come to a show to see Mr Holms. He is another one that is very well respected and will never be forgotten. My fourth is Steve Boz. this guy has an amazing look has been everywhere with professional wrestling and is one heck of a sports entertainer. He is one that people who probably don't even like pro wrestling will look at him on a poster and be interested in going to see him and see what he can do. He is a guy you can hear his entrance song and people get excited to see him come threw the curtain. My fifth would have to be Ian Rotton. Love him or hate him guys come around to see Ian Rotton. He has done a lot with professional wrestling from working a show to just putting on a show. People will always remember the guy you could probably fit a quarter in his forehead lol. Joking aside Ian Rotton will never be forgotten. My sixth and last one before I open it up to you readers would have to be the Strangler Diego Corleone. He is one who is very exciting to watch has been around the business for a long period of time. He has done work in Mexico and all over the Midwest. He is a very good heel and knows the ring and psychology very well. People see him and they love to boo the strangler. Okay like always I shared with you my tops and I am sure some of you are going to agree and some are going to disagree so here is your chance to add your thoughts and comments good or bad. If any one knows me I am all for a little heated argument and I never take anything to heart so add your comments down below. if you feel more should be added add them and why. Remember you can always find out whats new with Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs at www.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... also www.facebook.com...acobs This weeks match of the week comes from the JWA featuring The Strangler Diego Corleone Vs Cowboy Tyler Baggins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7PMEr...ature=plcp Thanks once again for reading The Podium. and as always workers stay safe and and marks keep buying tickets. Thanks again and look for the podium again next week. Read more:http://chicagoprowrestling.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=22696#ixzz1yGatLVXs Hello once again ladies and gentleman. To another Podium thread with myself Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs. Last weeks thread was read quite a bit and few comments but overall I think everyone was happy and I love reading how everyone feels or thinks good or bad does not matter to me.
Last week had a WONDERFUL time at NAPW in Pingree Grove IL. Probably one of the nicest buildings I have been in and the crowed was huge and H...O....T.... I don't know the exact count but I heard Tweek Phoenix say it was over 400 so I am going to take the mans word for it because there was a lot of freaking people. I have pictures up now and video coming soon atwww.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... you can also find them atwww.facebook.com...acobs I hope you all enjoy this weeks episodic thread of The Podium this weeks thread was inspired by another Legends of wrestling and I thought it would be good on here as always I am looking forward to your feedback I think this weeks will be one that raises a lot of feedback this weeks thread is.. WORST CHARACTER'S In pro wrestling as you all know there are great characters (gimmick's) and there are some awful ones. Here is the first one Mic Foley shot out right away and I find this really funny because he is fresh in everyone's minds right now... I am positive I am going to butcher the spelling of his name but everyone will know who I am talking about and that is Mantaur. Mic Foley could not spit it out fast enough lol he was chomping at the bit to say his name I laughed because he was just at rwf and everyone knows that story. Now they also brought up the fact that WWE is known for putting characters on guys and it was up to them to make it work. I see it as true in both ways. You as a worker should be like okay this guys is paying me X amount of dollars yeah I will be this character and get payed and be happy. But there is the other side you really cant force a gimmick on someone if they don't feel the gimmick its not going to go over so well. Best advice to new guys is be yourself first or have a gimmick that's an extension of yourself. When I was at NGW and running with Attitude Incorporated they tried putting me in the AMP gimmick. I loved the idea I had gear made and I loved working it... But the fact of the matter is I do honestly feel someone can do it better than I did. I loved the idea but it never fit who I was and it took me a while to figure it out but once I did I have never been happier. The next one they brought up was the Gobblety Gook. I never really seen that one so I don't know a whole lot about it. they showed clips and I was thinking to my self ... What the f**k where they thinking? hahaha but none the less it happened and it made there worst list. There next point was some of these guys and I think we are seeing a lot more of it today is that they were amazing workers but just did not have that "LOOK" so they had to put them in a gimmick to try to make it work and then it was up to them to run with it. My first question to the readers is ... Do you think any **Good** worker can make any gimmick work? my answer is no but I really want to see what you have to say. Also this kind of intrigued me because I have seen some really bad gimmicks on the Indy scene and I am only going to share a few that I have seen and then I am hopping you guys/girls will add your thoughts or who you feel should make the list . My #1 is Osiris .... Not the one most people know there is this black kid that runs for wppf he is scrawny long black dreadlocks and paints his face green. .... I don't get your gimmick kid I think you should think of something else. My #2 and I am sure I am going to here about this one because he is going to think I am shooting on him and I am not because this kid is a really cool guy and is learning a lot is Unicycle Joe he runs as a tag team called the Dude-son's. Sorry Joe I just don't like the unicycle you use it in some matches and it takes away from everything I just don't get it. My #3 Is the green chicken ......Idk where this guy is from I get that the gimmick is a joke and a rib but how is anyone ever going to take you seriously in that gimmick? My #4 Party Boy Ray. Once again I think this guy is a cool guy and I swear I am not shooting on you Ray if you read this I just don't like your gimmick. It is over played and it really has nothing to do with wrestling.... My #5 Tower Tully Thomas ..... Tully is a good dude and has a great heart and loves the wrestling business. But the Big Red Tower just does not work for you man I am sorry. First off your not that big. Your singlet has a little red in it but its also got a lot of black in it. And nothing about you resembles a tower. I am 6ft to 6ft1 and your just as tall as me Tully your an awesome dude but please find something that fits you. Okay and here is the part where I ask you who you think has an awful character and please give a little reason like i did to support yourself. Also comment on it if you disagree with me that's cool too hahaha. Well I sure hope everyone enjoyed this weeks thread of the Podium. This weeks match of the week consists of a six man tag for galla lucha i believe is the fed that this match came from It has Tony Rican and Steve Boz and the others I can not name off the top of my head. http://www.youtube.com...hDWyc Once again you can always find out whats new with Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs at www.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... or at www.facebook.com...acobs Once again thanks for reading and as always workers stay safe and marks keep buying tickets! Read more:http://chicagoprowrestling.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=22658#ixzz1xj51cduq Hello ladies and gentlemen to another episodic thread of "The Podium" with myself as your author of the evening Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs.
Talk a little about how my last week was.. I tore it up at the gym Monday threw Friday to finally get back in the ring for an NAPW paid show it was a lot of fun as it is always fun to be in a ring in front of people. I had a week off due to some cancellations but after that week I was nipping at the grit to get back in the circuit. For more info on where I am going to be or where you can find Mr #1 merchandise you can go to my website atwww.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... This week's subject of The Podium will be BREAKING INTO THE BUSINESS Breaking into the business is pretty hard and frustrating sometimes. I know off of my experience it took me a couple cracks at it before I finally started moving along the indie scene. My first crack was up at WCPW where they gave my taste the second was at MWWA and then finally getting settled in at LPW. People may say hey its not that hard you just go train and now your a professional wrestler and people the guy who trained you will book you there you go your in the business. Yeah and no hahaha. You can kinda look at it like that but I am talking about taking it a little deeper than just working for one company or only getting out once a month. I am talking about getting out there and actually getting the attention of the people and promoters. Now there is nothing wrong with showing loyalties ... I believe in loyalties threw and threw people should be loyal to the guys that trained you and there should be some boundaries on when you take bookings and why and always make sure that you keep your "Home Fed" dates open. I myself am a traveling wrestler and sometimes that does factor in weather or not I can accept a booking. But before all of that factors in you have to be trained... Any wrestler in the world will tell you that you have to be trained before you even think about being a part of this business. I feel that people look at it more to this day that its fake and if they can do it so can I... That's not true by any means like it or not love it or hate it pro wrestling is in fact a dangerous sport. I go into some matches knowing that some of the stuff I am wanting to do is going to not feel great. But things would feel a Hell of a lot worse if you are not trained. Second part is you have to go and get yourself out there. You have to be seen on someones ray-dar. When I first started I used to travel with my trainer just to set up rings and run his gimmick table waiting for that day where some worker has a last minute cancel or there is a rumble or something where I am already there and the promoter sees that I am there every time with gear and ready to go. also as a foot note to some of the newer workers that possibly read this just going to fed and setting up a ring is a fantastic way to get noticed and make contacts... I still do this to this day is show up early set up a ring. Your there early your helping the fed out and 10/10 times the promoter is there seeing you help out you get to chat and then usually the ring is set up there are hours before the show starts it is a good way to show him a little taste of what you got. (just a suggestion) Now once you have done things like this and are starting to get noticed and start getting into the Indie circuit and start getting booked on multiple feds are gaining experience your then officially broken into the business. Now I can see some replies coming already... There are guys out there that have only worked for one fed for years!! Are you saying there not broken into the business? In my thinking or way I look at the business yeah... your not 100% broken in. Your working basically the same guys in front of the same audience every time 1 time a month or less... am i saying your not a worker? No I am not saying that at all. But you as an indie wrestler I feel you have to get out and work new crowds every fed brings a little something different to the table and it challenges you as a worker to get over in front of new crowds. That pretty much wraps up this weeks thread of The Podium I hope you enjoyed your read and will comment below on weather you believe me or don't lol I love all kinds of feedback and even if you have a question go ahead and shoot it on there If I personally don't answer it I am sure someone will. This weeks match of the week comes from GAW and it has some of the best indie talents in Illinois it is Bucky Collins and Dodge Ball superstar Tyler Priegel Vs Zero Gravity. http://www.youtube.com...W3oFM This week you can find me Friday in action at Cambridge Lakes community center for some NAPW action with a special start time of 6pm bell time. Well that sums up this weeks thread as always you can find me on facebook at Facebook.com/CameronEJacobs Or you can fallow me on twitter at Twitter.com/CameronJacobs1 Or my latest way of reaching outwww.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl...where you can find upcoming dates read back on previous postings of The Podium or even shop at #1 Merch I also have videos posted and photos its been my last 4 week work of art in the making lol please check it out look around tell me what you think. Until next week as always workers stay safe and marks keep buying tickets!!!! Read more:http://chicagoprowrestling.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=22624#ixzz1wxzBOGkw Hello everyone once again for yet another thread of "The Podium" with myself Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs.
I would like to start off by saying thank you to all who had read and commented on my last thread. Both good and bad feedback is always a plus. I am pretty sure this weeks topic will spark some interest and might bring out some names in this one lol probably both good and bad. But whats wrong with a little controversy when were talking about a sport that promotes it?? hahaha well anyway this weeks topic is "THE LOOK" This is something that I feel gets kinda heated when you look around locker rooms now days. Now for those of you who don't know "The Look" is what you in your mind would portray that person to be a professional wrestler. With things such as; Big size , Muscle Definition, Colorful Tights, Boots/kick pads. Things that set you apart from everyone else. One of the things I always look at when I see someone new in a locker room is the size of the person. If he or she looks like they could handle being in a ring. The second thing is I look at there gear. You can tell almost 100% what that wrestler is going to be like by just looking at there gear. Your gear is what sets up your "Gimmick" For example I have bright purple with a silver and black number 1 on my front with my last name Jacobs down my back. I also have this missing 1 left long pant leg as my right leg is completely covered. Why did I choose this style? 2 major reasons I am a "Heel" and Purple is a Color that people are automatically going to make fun of you for it. And by missing a leg I feel it kind of adds a cocky-ness to the gimmick but it also adds fuel to the fans to interact with me. If I had a dollar for every fan that asked me where my other leg was I probably would not have to wrestle anymore. I also have the number 1 to play my gimmick its big and obnoxious just like I am and the name down my back so people remember my name. I feel that on the indies its kind of important to have your name on something because people don't always hear the ring announcer or if people want to look you up they will remember your name from seeing it. Now I was just watching a shoot interview with hardcore Craig after an ARW show I believe it was. And he makes a comment about guys just wearing tennis shoes in the wring. I agree with him 100% that's not "what wrestlers are supposed to wear" but I guess since Cena does it every Monday night its kind of adapted its way on there.... But the difference in my mind is its because he is freaking CENA!!! Love him or hate him he is who he is there will be no one else like him that's why he can pull it off. I feel if you wanna be on the indies you should have to have proper gear. Now I know everyone cannot afford wrestling boots that's fine. Amateur wrestling shoes are just as good. And the reasoning behind this is to protect yourself. Flat out, Pro wrestling boots and shoes give you proper ankle support and they have a flat smooth bottom with allows you to move easily in the ring. It also gives you that more "official" look. Now as far as gimmick gear goes the sky is the limit. This is where you can be anything in the world you wanna be. Colorful/flashy/scary/comic/stand out-ish. Why is it okay for some guys to think all they need is Tennis shoes (my favorite and seems everyone does this) Black Pants and a Black either muscle shirt or T shirt with no righting on it or anything??? I feel if your going to be a pro wrestler you should look like a pro wrestler. It goes in part with the dedication you have to the sport. I know ring gear is expensive but you can go to any sports store or goodwill and buy a singlet and wrestling shoes and probably not even brake a 50. To do the indies you have to spend money to make money. Here are a lift of guys I think that have GREAT gear Grin BOZ Diego Thomasellie's Carpenter Dan The Man Ali Maliki Justice Jones Glorioso Bucky Collins Tyler Priegle I'm sure there are more but I will leave that up to you to post who you think has some really cool gear. Now there are some guys I have seen in the past that had no gear at all Mega Phoenix Osiris Matt Styles DOJ I am sure there are more but these are the ones I can name off the top of my head and once again if you think someone that does not have gear that needs gear here is the place to post it. Now I also do understand that there are people that there gear is normal cloths on the indie scene like names I am sure will come up is Ian Rotton and The Necro butcher and Moxle rotton used to come out in Jeans and Jean shorts as well. The point being is that they can do it because of the style of wrestling that they do and because of who they are and what they have done you kind of look past the gear at them on that one. My point being if your new the business before you come in front of an audience I feel you should look like professional and have pride in what you look like. And in order to do that there should be some standards. Well that pretty much raps up this weeks thread of "The Podium" as always I look forward to reading everyone's feedback and seeing what your thoughts are on everything. This week the match of the week to watch is Myself vs Bucky Collins from LIVE PRO WRESTLING in Dixon IL http://www.youtube.com...vF2YI As always thanks for reading and until next time you can find my work onwww.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl.... You can find me onwww.facebook.com...acobsor you can fallow me on twitter at twitter.com/CameronJacobs1 Thanks again and as always workers stay safe and marks keep buying tickets!!!! Read more:http://chicagoprowrestling.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=22587&page=1#ixzz1wI8b5tf8 Hello ladies and gentleman welcome to another section of "The Podium" by myself Cameron Jacobs
This week I would like to talk about two wrestling terms that I feel is loosely thrown around. Now these two words most everyone one knows in now days wrestling as fans and workers combined. These two words are GREEN and VETERAN. Now I am sure you are asking yourself Cameron Jacobs what do you mean throw around loosely? Well I honestly feel that there needs to be a tighter band on Green and Veteran. I will share with you my point of views on what I feel is green and veteran. Also I will share with you when I think or feel someone makes the transition from green to veteran. Green, to me this is the beginning of your wrestling career. Weather it be reffing or wrestling or announcing or managing. If you have to walk threw the curt in and people see you as a performer and you are brand new to the business you are automatically colored green. It does not matter how old you are. It does not matter how good you look. You are automatically colored green. Now when I say colored green I obviously don't mean someone paints you green but everyone in the locker room can usually spot "The New Guy" (or girl) . Now in my opinion I love this formality. When a promoter comes up to me and says Cameron your working with bob nugget he is green so just make it simple or make him look good. BOOM I know that now I am working with someone new I am throwing all my complicated crap out the window. Why would i do this? Because I myself am not going to risk being hurt by some kid that is new to the company. But this also gives me a good chance to explore new ways to interact with the audience. This is something that just came natural to me and I don't get it. When I started my ring work was shotty at best. But I always went to the audience. Even if I knew I was peeing in the punch bowl I knew I could go to audience. I think that is what kept me getting looked at. Or what at least kept me around. Now I bring this up because I don't understand what is or why it is, green guys do not play to the audience now days? I literally see every match anymore where they will **sell** to an area of the ring or ringside area where there is no people at all !!! I have seen green guys talk more to the camera on there way to the ring then to the audience the entire match!! And they wonder why the crowed is so dead during there match. These guys give the people no reason to cheer for them or boo them. But here is question number one to you the readers. Can going to the audience be taught??? If not why are there schools not showing them how to pop a crowed?? Now any way getting back to the subject, I feel being green is not always a bad thing. In fact it probably saves alto of guys from getting there teeth kicked down there throat by openly admitting that there green. Now here is another problem with this. You have guys that come in have had lets say 10 matches. Some of them got a really decent response raised some eyebrows. These guys are starting to think there not green anymore and forgetting to say hey I am knew this. Instead there going out and starting to make calls like they actually know what there doing. Do you agree they should be able to make calls? In my opinion no but I am sure I will get some feedback on that one. Now lets fast forward to fading off the green and starting to get Veteran status. I feel that becoming a veteran is more than just paying your dues anymore. I have been in the business going into 7 years now. I am not claiming to be a veteran by an means so please hold your heckling Like I said I have been in for 7 years now. I am getting asked to be at shows I am getting calls to come in because company's want me on there roster. Does this mean I am not green any more? NO ... I feel I am still green have I paid my dues? Yeah I honestly feel that I have paid my dues I have driven hours away just to set up a ring and run a gimmick table. I have shown up on days where promoters just needed to put up posters. I have showed up hours and hours before shows to help set up a venue. I still do this today 7 years in. Why do I still do this when I know deep down I probably don't have too? Because its respect for the business and its respect for the guys I feel are the vets. I feel deep down I want to put on a great show for the fans who come and pay there money. I know that unless I put up a ring or set something up on the show. The show could get delayed and if no one set up anything the show would not even happen. I am seeing guys now days show up 10 matches in and feel like they don't have to do anything. 30 matches in the same thing even 1 to 5 years in the business doing it more and more. I feel you are green until someone tells you your not green any more. I think a lot of new guys need to get this mindset in there heads. Being a Veteran ties in with all of this because guys are proclaiming themselves to be vets way before they should be. Guys I feel are vets are someone who has actually gone and done something with this business. I feel that this is how it really truly should be. You should have gone up high in bigger feds and caught eyes of a lot more people then just the Indies. This is just a handful of vets please no one be offended there just names that i am throwing out there. Steve Boz is a vet. Why? He has done everything in this business. Matt Longtime same story. Derek Saint Holms, Diego Corleone, Doug Simmons, Bobby Houston, Pauly Thomaselli, Trip C, Danny Mckay, Ryan Pheonix, Tweek Pheonix, Hardcore Craig, I am sure I can go on for days about this but you know where I am comming from. I feel that those guys come in and know what there doing. They have true reasons for there matches and why you do things here and what to expect out of anyone. I feel that the word Veteran gets thrown around way to loosely because being a "VET" in this business is and should be an honer. I feel some people are getting put in that status way to fast and some people are self proclaiming themselves to be a vet long before they should be........ Well anyway that sums up this weeks thread of "The Podium" with writer wrestler and always Mr #1 Cameron Jacobs. As always I look forward to reading your feedback both good and bad. I take the heckling as a learning experience so fire away lol. And as always you can find me on Facebook.com/cameron-e-jacobs also you can fallow me on twitter.com/cameronjacobs1 also I have a new website that launched last week and it iswww.cameronjacobsisnumber1.weebl... I appreciate everyone commenting in on the last one Real Bad Asses Of Pro Wrestling. There were quite a few and I am sure everyone that commented on there agreed with every one's choices.
For my second thread I would like to talk a little bit about my experiences along my now nearing 7 year pro wrestling run. And we will see how well this thread goes and maybe soon we will be moving into video with guests. Now I don't wanna just come on here and throw name's up and and try to act like I have done something in this business when I haven't. You fans know me and have seen what I have done and some of you have not and would love to gather more interest in me can look me up on facebook or youtube. I will start from day one because that is the probably the biggest time in everyone's career is the first time actually stepping foot in a real ring. It was the 2006 Fantasy camp being run by Windy City Pro Wrestling .... See if you have what it takes.... I remember the flier very vividly. I seen this as my chance to get in there and see what I had or what I could do. I have always wanted to be a pro wrestler so here was my shot. I walked in payed my money and day one was just a sit down talk about what you were to expect in trying to be a pro wrestler we watched some tapes and we heard about C.M. Punk and Christopher Daniels to kind of see what we can do for you? I was pumped I mean why not I was 17 turning 18 this is the school where some big names came out why not? Day 2 was the reality check Steve Boz lead a group of "The Boys" (D.T.A ,Isaiah, Austin Robberts) i know there were 2 more I can not remember there names. Anyway needless to say they put us threw some major tests from running to lifting to boz dropping a 8 pound medicine ball on us while we kept our legs up 6 inches off the ground. Once we made it threw all that then it was time to come back and learn the stuff we came there for They showed us some small basic chain and then boz came up to me since i was an idiot and volunteered to take the first chop to learn how to give and take chops. It was a hell of a first day but what really caught me was we got to have a 2 minute match against a wrestler of there choosing. And at the end of my match during my match the fans who were there in school with me were cheering and booing like I belonged there like I could be seen doing this and when the ref counted to 3 on me winning I was hooked. I knew right then and right there I was gonna do what ever it took to try and do something with this business and nothing or no one was going to stop me. Fast forward about 2 years I meet my first real connection in pro wrestling Bobby Houston a worker that was coming back from working at Highspots for a few years making a real living off of wrestling. He was someone that could work with me almost if not everyday. And we did that exactly worked and worked and worked for about a month and a half I am greener then fertilized grass I am not kidding I still sucked something horrible but I knew how to do the motions and could get threw a basic simple match and Bobby was short a guy so there I was sitting pretty. Bobby hooked a show for the infamous Iron Horse in Sabula Iowa which brought a home for almost a thousand bikers for a weekend. I was pumped the crowed was energetic and it was my first real match where I actually had clue as to what was going on. Me and Eric Ruffington went out there and gave them a classic old school match and this was the first time I was in front of a large amount of people but not to mention that it was also the first time I ever heard a large group of people that I have never seen before in my life start chanting my name..... It was probably the most amazing feeling in the world. We will skip forward yet again about another year maybe a year and six months and I get to meat Cowboy Bob Orton. Now at this point in my life I have realized I love old school matches and have began watching a lot of ESPN classics of AWA and NWA and I had seen a lot of Bob's matches ... plus around this time Randy is really getting a push in the WWE. And here I am getting changed next to a legend at Next Generation Wrestling. Listening to Bob tell story's about the old days was amazing just hearing about the things he as done. Now a lot of you are going to say it was just Bob Orton or what have you... I was 20 years old in a locker room with a legend and now hall of Farmer. It will definitely be a night I will never forget. Skipping ahead a little further after I have been working solid matches and really kind of going out on my own and taking my own bookings. I get hooked up with a chance to wrestle for Ed Chuman. I took the NWA company very seriously. The few times I got to work the NWA shows was probably some of my favorite because they used old school wrestlers and it was all about the wrestling . Ed sat me down one day after a match and told me he really liked that I went to the audience he told me out of a long list of young guys he brought in here I stood out because of it. He told me to never stop doing that. It was something you just do and you cant teach it. Boy was he right about not being able to teach it.... Every time I see a younger worker coming up to me and asking me what I thought of the match I always tell them you got to go the crowed. I wait and watch them the next time I see them and still no change I don't get it lol. But anyway I only got to work a few shows with Mr Chuman and then he had passed away and then Sheik took over the company or what I heard and I have yet to see a NWA locker room ever again. My next big company I guess you could say would be my 2 matches at IWA mid south Ian Rotten was doing the tryout matches and I thought why not I was doing the amp gimmick and thought it would get over at the time it got over in NWA so why not? My first tryout I worked Danny McKay in Joliet that was the night Mr. Eastman told the yarder tag team to get lost and the crowed cheered him on because lets face it he was right. The crowed liked our match but I will say this now... it was never a IWA match by any means. . . So I went back this time we were in Pekin where I had my match against Kahagas the Tokyo Nightmare. . . . This was an IWA match he was good we went out there for 15 minute's he kicked my ass up and down that building... but I took everything well and he even got invited that night to the Ted Petty Invitational. But I found out this night that was never going to be a hardcore in your face wrestler like IWA needed and I am okay with that. So I continue to bounce from shows to shows around the Indies working for some nice feds and some crappy feds for a while gaining more and more knowledge and work experience. Then I bring it up to today... I run into joey rose ... A promoter running a show 10 minutes away from my house... I thought it was odd that they were running so close and I did not know anything about it. I did my homework and got on with NAPW. He put on a pretty good show there in Compton even though it was not a great building the fans were there and that was good plus I seen a little bit of "classic" wrestling with napw. Joey kept bringing me in until Rockin Randy took over. When Randy took over I thought to myself here is a guy that has done so much the business and really does have an eye for wrestling. I started stepping my game up a little bit playing more into my NUMBER 1 character ... which is actually a more vocal self .... I knew at this company if I started stepping my game up I could get the matches I felt I deserved and well lets face it needed . I am not saying I am a great worker by any means I still have to learn a lot but for the year or so before that I was walking into some locker rooms being the guy they would stick the new guy with because they knew I would keep it safe and turn what would probably be a train wreck into something ...okay i guess.... Now don't get me wrong a match is a match but any real worker will tell you that you learn the most from working with guys better than you. NAPW was giving this to me I have had matches with guys like Hardcore Craig Derek St. Holms (who I respect a lot ) Doug Simmons and had gotten a chance to sit and talk with Colt Cabana and Homicide. Or have Pauly Thomeselli watch my matches along with Midnight Express Reboot tell me what worked and what did not. These are all tools that help make workers better workers.
